Focus and Scope
The editor welcomes submissions on all aspects of Wells's life, work and thought.
PLEASE NOTE THAT SUBMISSIONS SHOULD NOT BE SUBMITTED THROUGH THIS SITE, as it is currently serving only as an archive, and not an active journal management system.
Please send articles, preferably as e-mail attachments, or on A4 (or equivalent) paper, double spaced. Please refer to the style guidelines listed in the submissions policy page.
Publication Frequency
The Wellsian is published annually, and accepts submissions throughout the year.
Open Access Policy
This journal provides immediate open access to its content on the principle that making research freely available to the public supports a greater global exchange of knowledge.
Journal History
The Journal is run and sponsored by The H. G. Wells Society. The Society publishes a journal and two newsletters each year. It also has available a Comprehensive Bibliography of Wells’s work (4th revision, 1986). A collected edition of Wells’s last two books, The Happy Turning and Mind at the End of its Tether, edited by G. P. Wells, is available as a paperback (1982). The Discovery of the Future, with The Common-Sense of World Peace and The Human Adventure, edited by Patrick Parrinder, appeared in 1989. Select Conversations with an Uncle (Now Extinct) with Two Hitherto Unreprinted Conversations, edited by David C. Smith and Patrick Parrinder, with a foreword by Michael Foot, was published in 1992. Human Rights and World Order by James Dilloway, revised and enlarged in 1998 to mark the 50th anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, is also available. More recently the Society has reissued The Betterave Papers, Wells’s last published series of articles from 1945 (2001), while a history of the Society by John Hammond has also been published (2000). All these publications, plus back numbers of The Wellsian, the H. G. Wells Newsletter and the Society’s Occasional Papers, can be obtained from: John Green, 29 Valence Circus, Dagenham RM8 3LU, UK.
Two anthologies of essays from The Wellsian have been published under the editorship of John S. Partington: The Wellsian: Selected Essays on H. G. Wells (2003) contains 14 essays and can be ordered through most bookshops or online from the publisher (www.equilibris.com) and H. G. Wells’s Fin-de-Siècle: Twenty-First Century Reflections on the Early H. G. Wells. Selections from The Wellsian (2007) contains 10 essays and can also be ordered through most bookshops or online from the publisher (http://www.peterlang.com).
Membership of the Society is open to anyone who subscribes to its aims. Subscription rates are as follows: individuals, £18 a year (UK/EU) or £21 (rest of the world); couples, £21; institutional members, £22; retired, unwaged and full-time students, £12 (UK/EU) or £15 (rest of the world).
